Street Department
Street Department maintains all streets and right of ways in Monroe City. They provide snow removal and do various maintenance jobs for other departments in the City.
The Street Department is the home of the “Brush Hounds”. They pickup brush, consisting of tree limbs, grass and leaves every Friday from the residents of Monroe City. This is a unique service that very few towns provide.
The Street Department has a culvert replacement program. Property owners who want a culvert in a City ditch may participate in this program. The property owner would purchase a 12″ minimum metal culvert and have it delivered to the area that it is to be installed. Property owner would make prior arrangements with the Street Department to have this culvert installed. The City installs these culverts with gravel. These culverts may be ordered through Robey Building Supply or any other vendor of the property owners choosing.
The Street Department also has a formal sidewalk program. For approved applicants, the City will remove the old sidewalk and purchase the concrete for the new sidewalk along the City’s right of ways if the applicant will have the sidewalk poured to City specifications.
